Lung Power: How You Breathe
Ages 3–9
Q-bo's Answer
Your chest expands because your lungs fill with air like balloons. Let's build a model with a bottle to see how the diaphragm helps you breathe!
📖 Explanation
🧒 For 3-5 Years Old
Take a deep breath! Your lungs fill up with air like balloons. When you blow out, they get small again. They help you talk, sing, and run!
🎒 For 6-9 Years Old
The Diaphragm
The lungs don't have muscles of their own. A big muscle underneath them called the 'diaphragm' does the work. When it pulls down, your lungs fill with air. When it relaxes, you breathe out.
Alveoli: Tiny Air Sacs
Inside your lungs, there are millions of tiny bubbles called alveoli. This is where oxygen enters your blood and carbon dioxide leaves your body. It's a busy exchange station!
❓ Frequently Asked Questions

- Yes, the human body is amazing and can adapt to live with one lung, though it might be harder to run fast.
- Why do we yawn?
- Scientists think yawning might help cool the brain or wake up the body with a big rush of air.
