The Problem It Solves

Japan's train stations are beautiful and complex — multiple levels, staircases, and platforms. Navigating Shinjuku or Osaka Umeda station with a large suitcase is miserable. Takkyubin (宅急便) is Yamato Transport's door-to-door delivery service that Japanese residents use for everything from laundry to furniture. How It Works

From Your Hotel

The easiest method: ask your hotel front desk the evening before departure. They hold your bags, Yamato picks them up in the morning, and the bags arrive at your next hotel by the following afternoon (or by a time slot you specify). Cost: approximately ¥1,500–¥2,500 per bag depending on size and distance.

From a Convenience Store

Any 7-Eleven, FamilyMart, or Lawson acts as a drop-off point. Fill in the forwarding slip (宅急便伝票) — staff will help if your Japanese is limited. Keep the receipt with your tracking number.

From the Airport

Both Narita and Haneda have Yamato counters airside and at arrival halls. Airport-to-hotel delivery (空港宅配, kūkō takuhai) takes 1–2 days and costs ¥2,000–¥3,000. If you fly in on day 1 and plan to move fast, send bags to your day-3 hotel immediately.

Timing Tips

Order delivery for the afternoon time slot (14:00–16:00 or 16:00–18:00) if you are checking in late. Hotels will hold received bags at the front desk. Use the Yamato website or app to track your package in real time — the site has English language support.
